If you think about what 16-22 year olds like to do, you will find that a common theme between all ages across that range is that they will like to go to parties, hang out with friends and not follow a crowd by doing their own thing independently. All of these themes I just mentioned are also very relatable to the Indie Rock/Pop genre. If you watch some music videos produced by 'The Hunna', you will find that there is often a group of friends (which could be the band themselves), a party or gathering involving alcohol of some description, and finally a unique selection of people dressed in their own personal and expressive way that shows what type of person they really are. This helps to give an impression of 'independent freedom', which is what the genre of Indie Rock/Pop drives forward in their songs and are always trying to promote.

Through a popular website run by magazine company NME, it was shown that the audience who listened to Indie Rock/Pop music were a engaged audience of primarily male listeners with a stunning 66%. Whilst the other 34% being female this ultimately shows that this genres main target audience is males between the ages of 16 and 24. The target audience is most likely going to be in some sort of education due to the popular age group that listen to them. They are also likely to be into arts, media and generally creative subjects that like to promote individuality within a person. This is because the word indie actually is just a shortened version of 'independent'. This is why creative people will link to the genre so much.
