Due to the title of my chosen music video being 'She's Casual', I decided to focus my initial ideas around a relationship between a boy and a girl as the title suggests that a boy is talking about the girl saying that she is 'casual'. As I am intending to have a boy and a girl in my video, i thought it would be best to look at some factors that have an influence on some relationships that cause problems. These factors are mainly ones that are more common within young adults and teens (The target audience age, 16-22). These factors are also ones that may be related to the indie culture as they believe in freedom ('Indie' stands for 'Independent') and pretty much doing whatever they want, however they want and whenever they want.
Inspiration
Alt J - Breezeblocks
This music video has given me a lot of inspiration and ideas which I could then look at and develop further possibly. The video features 2 very obvious editing techniques that make the video its own. Slow motion and the use of rewind. The video tells some type of love story between some people which involves them fighting and smashing items within the house. I would like to implement both of these editing techniques into my own video to show how alcohol is a common factor that is used over and over again as a instigator of violence within a relationship. I could show how alcohol is used in more than one occasion by rewinding a smashed bottle and making it fixed again. This will show how the relationship is affected by alcohol as it keeps on coming back even when it is supposedly finished with. The slow motion can be used in this situation to compliment the beat and timing of the song itself. This will make transitions seem fluent throughout the video as it will change when certain noticeable parts of the song are played.
The 1975 - Robbers
This video has given me a good example of how drugs can have an impact on a relationship. We follow a pair of lovers throughout the video and see how things start to change when drugs are implemented into their relationship. They behave differently and eventually lose their way. The way they act throughout the video also shows that they are both in pain but they still love each other and in the end, they make it through everything. This is a good video to take inspiration from as it shows me how relationships are effected by drugs and also some of the consequences drugs has on you as a person. We see that it drives these two slightly crazy as they rob a shop so my video could try and implement some type of scenario where a lover finds themselves in a situation you wouldn't usually find yourself in unless on drugs. Alcohol is again shown within this video which is another area I am looking at for my music video. This music video is also an extremely good example to look at as it is from the same type of genre, and the two main characters within the video appear to be of the same age as the target audience. This will help to captivate the target audience more as they can relate to the people in the video perhaps as they are of similar age and have possibly gone through some of these experiences themselves.
The Hunna - You & Me
By watching a video which has been made by The Hunna themselves i have been able to take some inspiration from them as well. Within their video for the song 'You & Me' I was able to identify that they use a lot of overlapping shots which featured graffiti writing throughout. This made the shots look a lot more exciting, even if it was just a shot of the group walking, it adds a lot more character to it as it seems more like an indie video. Along with very short shots of black and white images it combines to make the video faster and snappier when the tempo of the song starts to rise. Added with various close ups of the friends laughing and enjoying each others company, this video compliments the song well and has also provided me with components that I can use to make my own video feel like one that is produced by The Hunna themselves.
